This Japanese Garden
was conceived by our designers after our client issued strict orders to
create something beautiful without using anything organic. No live plants,
no mulch, no soil; everything had to be inorganic because of concerns with
potential moisture problems.
The 8,000 sq. foot Atrium was transformed into this serene, yet stark,
dry river bed garden. To accomplish this we first removed all the existing
materials. A river bed was dug and contours were created throughout the
atrium. Once this was completed we laid down a barrier of black plastic
mulch. Using wheel barrels we installed 30 tons of gravel, 3,700 rubber
imitation black river rocks, a ton of border stones, 25 faux stepping
stones and another ton of rubber faux mulch. A beautiful and simple wooden
bridge was installed over the dry river bed before our crews completed the
garden by carefully 'planting' eight large faux boulders.
Silk Bamboo palms, ground ferns and river grasses adds life to this stark
garden. Atria was awarded 'Best Project' by a National publication for
this design and received applause from both the property company and the
tenants within the building. |
